Died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1985, at 6 p.m. at Schumpert Medical Center, Shreveport. He was 70, a native of Rovanna [sic], Ark., and longtime resident of Blanchard. He was retired owner and operator of Betterton Grocery in Blanchard more than 30 years; and U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Religious services at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street, Shreveport, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. James Hill, pastor of Blanchard Baptist Church. Burial in Centuries Memorial Park, Shreveport.

Survived by wife, Ila Jones Betterton, Blanchard; a daughter, Cindy Elliott, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Betty Simpson, Texarkana, Texas, and Lorain Mayfield, Atlanta, Texas; a brother, R.O. Betterton, Shreveport; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James "Bo" Gholson, Charlie McGrew, Keith Betterton, Howard and Hardy Crow and Tres Redmon.

He was a member of Blanchard Baptist Church and town of Blanchard alderman.
