MARKLE - Sarah M. Batzka-Koehler, 72, 5629 N. W. Ind. 116, was found dead in her home at 12:15 p.m. Sunday. She died of natural causes.
She was born in Markle. She graduated from East Rock Creek High School in 1936. She graduated from Indiana University in 1940. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Sorority. She was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church, and was the church's choir director. She was a charter member and director of the Markle Area Historical Society. She was the director of the Huntington County Chorus. She was a member of the Indiana State and Wells County Retired Teachers Associations. She was employed as an art and music teacher, retiring in 1972 from the Northern Wells Community School Corp.
She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. S. Jan (Nancy) Wimmer, Marion, Mrs. Carol Opal, Huntington, and Mrs. Roger (Lynda) Miller, Ossian; a stepson; Norman Batzka, Detroit; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Myers Funeral Home, 415 N. Lee St., Markle, with Norman R. Glassburn officiating. Private interment will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Markle United Methodist Church or the Markle Public Library.
