Alcinda B. Hoge was born in Nettle Creek township. She was the daughter of William Hoge and his wife Rachel Bowles, natives of Virginia, who came to Nettle Creek in 1831. They were the first settlers of the county. Mrs. Ridgway was reared on the farm and on August 4, 1869 she was married to Dr. Emanuel Cryder Ridgway. She had six children with him. Fredrick, Henry, George, Mary, Franklin, and Rachel. She died in the store having gone there to get items to make a dress for her young granddaughter Louise Fey
