PFC. Ishmiel Joseph Duprey Jr. U.S.M.C., age 18, of South Burlington, Vt., the only child of Ishmiel Joseph Duprey Sr. [also a World War II Veteran] and Agnes Josephine (Bergevin) Duprey, grandson of Agnes Josephine (Lassor) Savchenko.
He was Killed in Action on May 15th 1945 in Okinawa during World War II fighting with the 6th Division, U.S. Marine Corps., he landed on Okinawa on Easter Sunday and had since been in the thick of the fight, his first major campaign.
He was born on October 7th 1926 in Burlington, Vt. He enlisted in the Marines on March 14th 1944 after he had reached his 17 birthday, he had been overseas since October 1st 1944.
He graduated from Nazareth School and atteded Burlington High School.
Before going into service, he was employed for a time by the American Woolen Company in Winooski, Vt. where his father also worked.
His father Ishmiel Duprey Sr. was spending a few days furlough at home to attend the serviced of his son. He is serving with the Armored Tank Division at Fort Knox, Ky. after an unsuccessful bid to get into the Marines.
