TUPELO – James Robert "Bobby" Beane Jr., 76, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at his residence in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was born in Plantersville on Feb. 4, 1937, to James Robert Beane Sr. and Nannie Rogers Beane. He graduated from Plantersville High School and attended Mississippi State University. He was a longtime employee of the Beane family business, Mississippi Welding Supply, and later in life, BBQ by Jim. A lifelong member of the Plantersville United Methodist Church, he was a colorful character who loved good conversation and laughter, never met a stranger, and was known for his love of animals and his compassion for others. He was a gifted and accomplished pianist.

A life celebration service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Beane Family Plot at Plantersville Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Fair officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include his special family, Jim Beane (Barbara), Jim Beane II, Jordan Beane (Amber) and Betsy Beane; a special aunt, Wanda Beane of Tupelo; special caregivers, Tammy Wiggins and Helen Stubbs; and his Beane and Rogers cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Danny Beane; a special aunt who helped raise him, Katherine Rogers; and a brother, George Beane Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of Mississippi Welding Supply and current employees of BBQ by Jim.

Memorials may be made to United Methodist Senior Services – Meals on Wheels, 2800 West Main St., Tupelo, MS 38801; or the Plantersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 56, Plantersville, MS 38862.
