He is survived by his wife, Hilda Brooks of Fort Wayne; sons, Donald (Cindy) Brooks of New Haven, and Vernon Brooks Jr. of Roanoke; daughter, Joan Carol (Peter) Brooks-Biersteker of Washington, DC; grandsons, John Biersteker of Washington DC, Timothy Brooks of Harlan, Cliff (Avilla) Myrice of Decatur, Andrew (Renee) Brooks, Tim (Caryn) Myrice of Huntington, and James McBride of St. Joe; granddaughter, Carlie Brooks of New Haven; sister, Clare Jahn of Fort Wayne; brother, Robert Brooks; family friends, Andrea Myrice of Ossian and Denise Dumato of Fort Wayne; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside service is 1 p.m. today at Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Ave. Arrangements by D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
