Johnston Staples Rowe, 61, of Midland, Texas and formerly of Winona, died November 17, in Midland.

He was born March 9,1921 in Memphis and lived his early life in Winona, graduating from Winona High School and the University of Mississippi.

He received his law degree from the University of Texas in Austin, where he was editor of the Texas Law Review.

He practiced law in Jackson and Houston, Texas, before joining Texaco, Inc. He moved to Midland in 1959 and was division attorney for the West Texas - New Mexico area Texaco.

Survivors include his wife Velma Filley Rowe and two sons, Brian F. Rowe of Lubbock and Dr. David R. Rowe of Midland.

Funeral services were held on November 20 in the chapel of the First Baptist Church in Midland. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
