Melvin Reed Cooper, Laredo, died at 3:30 Thursday morning at Mercy hospital, Des Moines.
Mr. Cooper was born Sept. 24, 1892, in Mercer County, near Half Rock. He was the son of William Windsor and Sara E. (Garriott) Cooper. On July 11, 1948, he married Letha Davis. Surviving are his wife and one son, a daughter; three stepdaughters; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Middough, Spickard; six brothers, Frank Cooper, Trenton; Johnny Cooper, Spickard; Gale Cooper, Marion, Ia.; Jake Cooper, Alburnett, Ia.; Albert Cooper, Great Bend, Kan.; Oral Cooper, DeSoto, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
He was a member of the Half Rock Baptist Church. He was a retired pipefitter for Shell Oil Company.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Laredo Baptist Church. The Rev. K. W. Peery will officiate.
Burial will be in the Half Rock cemetery under the direction of the E. J. Robertson Funeral Home at Laredo.
