Marion S. McCrary, daughter of Charles and Delia Nixon Stewart, was born Oct. 31, 1910, at Staples, Minn. and departed this life Aug. 30, 1977 at University Hospitals in Minneapolis, Minn. at the age of 66. She attended Mankato Teachers College and taguht school in Minnesota for a number of years. During the years she lived in Van Buren County she was active in many community efforts. Primary in her life was her service to God as a member of the Keosauqua Branch, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A leader in the Van Buren County Chapter, Ddaughters of the American Revolution, she had recently completed twelve years of work on a bicentennial project which involved the cataloging of 103 Van Buren County cemeteries. She was also a member of the Van Buren County Historical Society, the Pioneer Historical Society of Farmington and was chosen the Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year for 1977 by her peers in the Van Buren Senior Citizens Association. Her husband, Keith McCrary, preceeded her in death on July 5, 1974.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her mother, Mrs. Delia Senti of Bonaparte; two sons, David and Raymond Smith, both of Dallas, Texas; three dughters, Kay Ferguson, Dallas Texas, Sandra Smith, Mexia, Texas, and Ardath Dikel, LaJolla, Ca. Also susrviving are a sister, Lois Senti and and uncle, Jacob Senti, both of Bonaparte; tweenty eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a good neighbor and friend, who did her part to make her community a better place in which to live.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 3, 1977, at the Keosauqua Latter Day Saints Chapel under the direction of Elder Gerald Franklin, assisted by Elders James Ferguson, Garr Bolton and Ford Gano. Judith Sands was the soloist and Ethel Carnahan the organist. Elder Ford Gano was in charge of the grave dedication in Oaklawn Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
