Don attended the University of Nebraska from 1913 to 1917 and was active in the University Players. In 1917 he entered the U. S. Army and served a a first lieutenant with the 16th Cavalry during World War I.
Don married Louise Schavland on February 10, 1918, at the home of her parents in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska. Louise was born June 13, 1893, in Nebraska, the daughter of Christopher and Carine (Thomassen) Schavland. Don and Louise had the following known children:
1. Ruth Caribelle (Marcellus) 1) Laufer, 2) Rossington 3) Biel (1923-2005)
2. Robert Christopher Marcellus (1928-1996)
Don served as the secretary of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce from 1937 to 1938. He was associated with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States since 1930, and from 1951 until his death he was manager of the Chamber's northeastern division.
Don died at home on October 3, 1951, in Forest Hills, Long Island, New York. Louise died June 11, 1980, in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California. Louise died June 11, 1980, in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California.
