Tressia Lou Owens was welcomed to her new Home in Heaven on April 17, 2013 by her many family and friends that left before her.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m.,Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene officiated by Reverend Don Audrey, with burial to follow in Belvedere Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/ Sherwood Way.

Tressia was born on July 15, 1937 in a small house in Mayhill, New Mexico. She was the youngest of seven, born to Bonnie Love Allen and Bertha Verge Allen.

They moved down the hill to Tularosa in time for her to start school. She remained there throughout high school. She was active in school and the community, a cheerleader, played sports, and the trombone.

She met our father, Jim Owens, in 1955, and they married in August of that year. She remained in Tularosa to finish high school and her new groom went to Germany with his Army group. She had a busy year, working and preparing to go to Germany.

We have all loved hearing the stories she would tell about living in Germany. A small town girl in a big new world walking to market in her moccasins and blue jeans! This is just one of many wonderful memories.

After returning to New Mexico in 1957 Mom and Dad were joined by Mark, their first born, in 1958, Brenda in 1959 and Janet in 1962.

While living there until 1969, Mom worked at White Sands Missile Range. She was part of the research team that developed our SCUD Missile Program. We are proud to know that she helped with something that keeps our soldiers safe today.

In 1969 we moved to Colorado where we welcomed our little brother Stoddard in 1970. One of our favorite memories there is coming home to the smell of fresh baked cookies on a cold winter day.

We eventually moved down to Texas where she worked many years with Dr. Jerry Schulz at the Angelo Clinic (now Shannon Clinic). She consecutively started working at the Carlsbad State School. She loved and cared for the clients for seventeen wonderful years. Not being one to easily retire, Mom continued working with the people she loved at Bethphage (now Mosaic) and many years with Dr. Bender and Dr. Lind at the Shamrock Clinic.

Through the years she was blessed with four grandchildren, Alan Owens, Nicki Owens, Justin Mitchell and Veronica Cawrse. She and Dad have also been blessed with nine great grandchildren, Xaviea, Brianna, Addison, Maverick, Mallory, Trey, Jeremy, Tyler and her own little namesake Tressia.

Special thanks to Dr. Roberta Hinshaw, Dr. Stanley and all the wonderful staff with Odessy Hospice and Park Plaza Nursing Home.
