Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sibley. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18, 1998) at his residence.
Memorials may be made to Gibson City Hospice, an affiliation of Carle Hospice.
Mr. Bachtold was born Aug. 15, 1907, in Medaryville, Ind., a son of William and Ida Alt Bachtold. He married Edna Alma Warsaw Jan. 1, 1936, at Cropsey. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Kay (Larry) Lohmeyer, Bloomington, and Karen Fay (Dan) Gentes, Sibley; two sons, Kenneth William (Patricia Ann) Bachtold, Sibley, and Robert Lynn (Nichol S.) Bachtold, Decatur; four sisters, Lillian Bachtold, Fairbury; Nettie Kyburz and Janita Koehl, both of Forrest; and Laura Kupferchmid, Eureka; three brothers, Carl Bachtold and Willis Bachtold, both of Fairbury; and Elmer Bachtold, Forrest; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
His parents, four brothers, one sister, one great-granddaughter and two step grandchildren preceded him in death.
Mr. Bachtold had lived most of his life in the Sibley area and farmed in that area until 1945. He then opened a machine shop in Sibley until his retirement in 1974.
He was a member of Sibley Sportsman's Club and was an avid trap shooter.
