Mrs. Eva Egerton Rucker Lewis died Nov. 3, 2000, at Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Greensboro.


A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in the chapel at Masonic and Eastern Star Home .


Mrs. Lewis was born to the late William G. Egerton and Sue Mills Egerton in Mill Spring on Jan. 27, 1906. She was married to the late Henry Allen Rucker in 1930 and the late R. Fred Lewis in 1965. She graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers College in 1928 and from Western Carolina Teachers College in 1960. She taught school many years in Polka, Cleveland and Rutherford Counties. In earlier days she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She was a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church.


Mrs. Lewis is survived by two daughters, Doris Dudley of Raleigh and Sue Andrew and husband, John of Winston-Salem; sister, Virginia Rigsbee of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Lewis family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home, where she resided for 17 years.
