Monte (Jack) D. Gallagher, age 85, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Ames Family Hospice House of the Hospice of the Western Reserve after a lengthy illness.

Monte served in the Navy during WWII.

He retired from Ford Motor Company after 39 years and spent winters in Florida. He volunteered at the Curiosity Shoppe in Avon and as a conductor on the Cuyahoga Valley Line. He was an avid traveler, pool player, fisherman, bird watcher and gardener. He especially liked to read and he read every Science Fiction book in the Avon Public Library. He was a member of the Elyria Masonic Lodge No. 0787 and the American Legion.

Monte is survived by daughters Debra S. Gallagher and Dorene L. Stallings, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his wife of 12 years, Virginia (Ginny) L. Tracey, five step-children, 15 step-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mildred Jobes Gallagher; parents John L. Gallagher and Elizabeth Jones Gallagher; and sisters Geraldine Moon and Winifred Andler.

Arrangements were under direction of the Bogner Family Funeral Home in North Ridgeville. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA.
