Margaret Baker was born about 1894 to Frances Baker and Lizzie Fudge Mitchell Baker. She and two siblings, James and Mildred, died of diphtheria in September of 1907.

Her two siblings died first, a few days apart. They were buried and Margaret visited their graves constantly until she died a week later.

Margaret, age 13, prepared food for those who were present when her brother and sister were buried. She commented that they would be burying her next week. And this was true, for she also died of diphtheria the following week. The three children share the same tombstone, but Margaret's name was never added. It is inscribed with the names of James and Mildred.

At the time of the children's deaths, their mother was gone, having gone by horse and buggy from the Buckeye in Greenbrier County to Tazewell County, Virginia, to visit her family. They were all dead and buried by the time she returned.

Another of her children, Joseph Robert Baker, born in 1892 and fifteen years old then, also had diphtheria but survived.

Lizzie and Frances ("Frank") later had two more children, Carl and Garnett.
