Eugene Kellam Press, son of the late Kellam T. and Mayme Mapp Press was born in Chesapeake, Northampton Cty., Virginia, on 7 August 1912. His spirit returned to its Maker, Monday, July 28, 1975. At an early age he joined the Union Baptist Church of Eastville, Virginia, later moving his membership to Bethlehem Baptist Church of this city.
He receivied his formal education at the Tidewater Institute of Chesapeake, Northampton Cty., Va. and at Saint Paul's College, Lawrenceville, Virginia.
In 28 February 1940, he married Miss Lorane A. Henson, established himself as a citizen of Mecklenburg County, and became an esteemed agent for North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, a position that he held for the past thirty-five years and where he was currently employed at the time of his death.
It would take more than a few words to describe the warm, wonderful, kind-hearted personality of our loved one. For the kind unselfish life that he lived will serve as a perpetual memory and a comfort to all who knew him and loved him.
We, the family cannot express in words our great loss, and feel that many whose lives touched his, mourn with us today. We thank God for his life and the many quiet and wonderful hours that we shared as a family. His memory will be our monument of faith, his good works will follow after him, and he will always be remembered in our hearts. He leaves to morn: his wife, Mrs. Lorane H. Press; three sisters; Mrs. Elsie Burden, Mrs. Ruby Stokes, Mrs. Constance Fox, four brothers; Maurice, Oliver, Walter, and Severn. five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, nine nieces, eleven nephews, other relatives and many friends.
