Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Lester Menzel
Lester Menzel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Menzel, passed away at his home near Montrose early Saturday morning following a short illness with pneumonia.
Mr. Menzel was born in Westcliffe on October 15, 1911 and had lived in the valley nearly all his life, having moved to Montrose only a few months ago. He attended grade school at Ula and later graduated from Custer County High School. On October 24, 1933 he was united in marriage with Miss Inez Steele of Nucla, Colorado, the marriage taking place in Montrose. Mr. and Mrs. Menzel and their infant son moved to Montrose seven months ago where Lester was engaged in the farming business with his father.
Lester was known and liked by a host of friends thruout the valley and his untimely death will be keenly felt. He is survived by his wife Inez, and baby son, Donald, his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Gus Menzel, two grandmothers and one grandfather and many other relatives.
A short service was held in Montrose Sunday for relatives and friends living in that section. Funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from Hope Lutheran Church, Rev. Elmer Gunther conducting. Pallbearers were Lyman Verhoeff, Herbert Kettle, E. L. Blackburn, Walter Hanssen, Ray Stewart and Wm. Schellerberg, Jr. Interment was in Ula cemetery.
