Funeral services for William H. Minton (1867-1956), 89, who died Saturday at 5 p.m., in a Jacksonville Beach nursing home after a long illness were held today at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of the W. Carl Davis & Son Funeral Home with Dr. H. K. Masteller officiating. Interment was in West View Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were J. H. Bryan, J. Emmett Brown, Carl Rivers, Frank Sapp, G. D. Bogue and Claude Conway.
The deceased was born in Putnam County on March 31, 1867, and married Lulu T. Hancock, who died in 1938. She was the daughter of the late John and Jane Hancock, a pioneer Putnam County family. Minton was Chief of Police in Palatka for 20 years and was deputy sheriff for four years under the late Lee Kennerly. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Willard Hancock of Jacksonville Beach and R. C., Miami; three daughters, Mrs. Mae Neck, Jacksonville Beach, Mrs. Pearl Osteen, Ft. Pierce, and Miss Eunice Minton, Washington, D.C.; and one brother, S. A. Minton, Orlando. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Wednesday, 26 Dec 1956.)
