George Washington Dillery died at his home in this city Tuesday morning, August 22 at 2:10 after an illness of less than a week.
Mr. Dillery was enjoying his usual robust health up until Thursday of last week. He put in a full day at the Osceola Handle Company on that day and after eating a hearty supper retired early with no intimation of approaching illness.
During the night Mrs. Dillery notice something wrong with the way he was breathing and being unable to arouse him called for her brother Frank Mounts who was asleep in an adjoining room.
Mr. Mounts realized that something was radically wrong and hurriedly called a physician found that Mr. Dillery had suffered a stroke of paralysis, his entire right side being affected.
After examination disclosed the fact that this stricken man was suffering from an acute attack of Bright’s disease as well as paralysis and everything possible was done to relieve him. His temperature hovered around 104 and could not be reduced. Monday afternoon his temperature rose to 105 and it was then realize that the end was very near, the stricken man passing away at 2:10 Tuesday morning.
Telegrams were sent to Mr. Dillery’s two children; R. E. Dillery at South Bridge, Mass., And Mrs. Catherine Wonder at Rawson, Ohio. They reach Osceola Sunday evening and were with their father when the end came.
Funeral services were held at the family residence Tuesday afternoon and the body was taken to Arcadia, Ohio, Tuesday night for interment in the city Cemetery there.
Rev. W. A. Lindsay, pastor of the Methodist Church preached the funeral sermon.
Mr. Dillery was a good citizen in the broadest acceptance of the term. He was devoted to his children and his wife who has been an invalid for many years. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias and the Maccabees.
Besides his invalid wife he is survived by the son and daughter hereto forementioned and the bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in there hour of sorrow.
Mr. Dillery was born in Hancock County, Ohio, October 7, 1856. He was married to Miss Ella Mounts at Arcadia, Ohio, Dec. 6, 1877. He came to Osceola with his family and 1900 and excepting for a short period has lived here continuously since.
He was associated with his brother-in-law Frank Mounds at the Osceola Handle Company here and his death is a great blow to his business associates as well as to his family and the community.
