Herman Werthiem Barncastle, 80, of Doña Ana passed away March 9, 2008 at Arbors of Del Rey in Las Cruces. Herman was born on October 1, 1927 to Patrick Barncastle and Frances Werthiem Barncastle, both from pioneer families in the area. Herman farmed the Barncastle properties until he retired in 1992. He was a proud member of the Republican Party and the Fraternal Order of Eagles and he was a devoted member of Our Lady Purification Catholic Church. His greatest joy in life however was his family - especially his nieces and nephews with whom he was so generous. His unconditional love and generosity will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Francis Barncastle; three sisters, Ella Ledesma, Henrietta Whallon, and Amy Palmer; one brother, Pat Barncastle; brothers-in-law, Frank Ledesma, Joe Palmer, Joseph Camunez, Sammie T. Chavez, and Leon Waskiewicz; and one great-nephew, Dustin Burke. He leaves behind three sisters, Mabel Chavez, Norah Camunez, and Arlene Waskiewicz; 17 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews, and 6 great-greatnieces and nephews. Services will be held at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Doña Ana on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 7 p.m. and Wednesday March 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, 9500 Montgomery NE, Suite 209, Albuquerque, NM 87111 or www.alz.org/newmexico. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home 555 West Amador, Las Cruces, New Mexico.
