CORNELIUS I. BAIRD

Cornelius I. Baird, for some years a resident of near Masonville, later in the grocery business at Independence, died at his home in Rock Island, Illinois, on January 28th, 1921. Funeral services were held in Rock Island on Monday afternoon, and on Tuesday the remains were brought to Manchester and then taken to the Masonville cemetery where interment was made.

Mr. Baird was born in Oswego county, New York, July 9th, 1836. As a child the family came west and located near Chicago, where they resided until 1876, when they came further west and located on a farm north of Masonville, In 1892 Mr. Baird moved to Independence, where he engaged in the grocery business. In 1901 he retired from the grocery business and moved to Rock Island, Illinois, where he had since resided.

Mr. Baird is survived by five children, Charley Baird of Independence, Irven C. Baird and Andrew C. Baird of Rock Island, Ill.; Mrs. Etta Stuhr, of Rock Island, Ill.; and Mrs Lottie VanVors, of Dubuque.

Mr. Baird was married to Harriet McFarlin, a member of one of the pioneer families of the county. She passed away in March, 1918 and her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Masonville.
