Mildred Louise Wood Allen, 85, of Lovingston, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born on July 8, 1927, in Buckingham, Virginia, the daughter of the late Eddie McFadden and Mary Lucy Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Houston Allen; a son, Dewey S. Wood; two brothers, Bernard Wood and Arthur Fleming Sr.; and two daughters-in-law, Gladys Wood and Jane M. Wood. Louise is survived by six sons, Harold Wood and wife, Pat, of Buckingham, Virginia, Cecil Wood of Amherst, Virginia, James Wood and wife, Monica, of Columbia, Maryland, Herman Wood of North Garden, Virginia, George Wood and wife, Olive, of Keswick, Virginia, and Steve Allen of Earlysville, Virginia; two daughters, Ethel Allen of Palmyra, Virginia, and Catherine Stratton and husband, Robert, of Charlottesville, Virginia; one daughter-in-law, Sarah Wood of Arrington, Virginia; three sisters, Dorothy Burt of St. Louis, Missouri, Ann H. Bey of Toledo, Ohio, and Sarah Johnson of Bronx, New York; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston with the Reverend John P. Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at the Allen family cemetery in Schuyler, Virginia.
