He was born in Wood County, W.Va., the son of the late Willard and Chelsie Mae Waggoner Haynes.
He had retired from G.E. Plastics and had worked as an auctioneer in West Virginia and Ohio.
He enjoyed going to flea markets and antique hunting as well as traveling and road trips. He was a giving man who loved God and always put others first, his car was always full of gifts to give people. His favorite quote that he always loved to say was "grasp the opportunity, seize the moment and broaden your horizons". He was a member of the Spreading Truth Ministries and had helped with building the church building.
He is survived by his children, Cathy Conley and Richard of Belpre, Richard Haynes Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., Janice Meredith and Frank of Belpre, Jan Rhoades and fiance A.J. of Venice, Fla., Michelle Eakin and Don of Chatham, Va., Becky Heiden and Richard of Belpre. His grandchildren, Jason Paul Dodge and Erica of Marietta, Ohio, Mariah Meredith and Frank L. "Les" Meredith V of Belpre. His sisters, Linda Gary of Parkersburg and Brenda Patterson of Rockport, W.Va. His brothers, Jack Haynes of Cutler, Ohio, Bob Haynes of Parkersburg, Gary Haynes of Cutler, and Harold Haynes of Baton Rouge, La.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail L. "Dot" Bailes Haynes, in 1997.
Funeral services will be Saturday 1 p.m., at the Spreading Truth Ministries Church with Pastor Ralph Tisdale officiating. Entombment will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will also be at the church today from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Spreading Truth Ministries Support Group, 1093 Core Road, Parkersburg, WV in Sonny's name.
