May 20, 1954 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - Mrs. Sarah Hartman Deppe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Hartman, sr., was born Nov. 2, 1868, in Clayton county. She came later with her parents to a farm near Schaller.
She was united in marriage to Henry Deppe in the German Reformed church at Schaller in 1888. They spent 19 years on a Sac county farm, four years in Ida county and one year in Minnesota, moving to Storm Lake in 1912 upon retirement from the farm. She had lived the last 42 years in the same home at 524 Superior street. Mr Deppe passed away in 1941. She was a member of the First Methodist church in Storm Lake.
Surviving her are eight children: William Deppe, Storm Lake; Mrs. Louise Christensen, Calumet; Fred Deppe, Sutherland; Adam Deppe, Storm Lake; Edward Deppe, Ida Grove; Paul Deppe, Storm Lake; Mrs. Eva Newman, Sioux City, and Mrs. Emma Lane, Storm Lake. There are 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; one brother, Adam Hartman of Marathon. She had been in ill health since March 6 and was taken care of by her three daughters during her illness.
She passed away May 16, 1954 in her 95th year. She was a good wife and loving mother, giving of her love to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. She always took a great interest in community affairs, and even when eyesight failed, she was always concerned about all of those about her and in her family circle.
Services were held from the Hughes Funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. C.R. Buckwalter officiating. Mrs. Morton J Hughes sang two numbers. Beares were George Mack, Dr W.F. Miller, Harry Schaller, Wyatt Yon, Elmer Sanderman, and John Deppe. Interment was in the Storm Lake cemetery.
