She grew up in Harrisonburg and attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., graduating with a dual major in Sociology and Music.
As a teenager, she was often a soloist in the Presbyterian Church Choir.
For many years, she was employed as a social worker at Western State Mental Hospital, for the Harrisonburg Welfare Department and later, the Prince William County Public Welfare Department. She became supervisor of Family and Child Services. She was also a realtor for many years.
In 1966, she married her beloved husband, Robert Dale Gill, who was employed in federal law enforcement and the couple lived in Arlington and Manassas, Va., before moving to Culpeper.
In Culpeper, she organized and managed the Gift Shop for the Culpeper Hospital and volunteered at the Culpeper Animal Shelter.
Nancy always loved music and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Gill, and a son, Andrew Samuel Gill of California.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 1 p.m. with interment to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg, Va. The Rev. Paul O'Gorek will conduct the service.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home.
