Per military records, Commodore appears to have served three tours in the United States Army as a lineman in the Signal Corp from 1905 until his final discharge on November 20, 1914, with the rank of Sergeant. He then returned home and went to work for the Norfolk and Western Railroad, where he was killed due to a train wreck.
