SWEAT - Dorothy M. Sweat, passed away Sunday. She overcame typhoid fever as a child, and endured the hardships of the Depression. Later she worked in binocular factory during the World War II era and eventually retired from civil service at NAS Jacksonville (NADEP). She accomplished much during her 72 years, but was proudest to have provided care, comfort and love to her husband of 45 years, Edward O. Sweat, Sr. She raised and nurtured three children, Mary Finnell, Linda Augustine, and Edward O. Jr. She enjoyed and spoiled five grandchildren, Robin Staton, Karan Griffis, Gina Sweat, Kenneth Gainey, Katie Augustine and Andrew Augustine. She further heaped love and affection on her three great grandchildren, Anna Colton and Bailie Staton. She was a lifelong friend and sister to Andrew Moss, Robert Moss, Jimmy Moss and Jeanette Ansley, Bevelou Fisher. Dorothy was always a giver and doer for others, she leaves behind many friends and neighbors that were touched by her good humor and care. She provided for the needy and was always there for anyone who needed her support. She lived a long joyous life and is now forever in the arms of the Lord and in the hearts and minds of all that knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday in the chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 So. Edgewood Ave. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
