Died at his home northwest of Perryton, Z. H. COOK, aged 77 years, 1 month and 11 days. Not to him our tears. Rather let us crown his grave with garlands; few of us will live as long or as well, and fewer yet will the Angel of Death greet with such loving touch.
Zora Hayden COOK was born in St. Clair County, Illinois, on July 22, 1846, to Mr. and Mrs. John COOK. At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Collins County, Texas, settling near Frankford. At the age of eighteen years he enlisted and served for two years during the Civil War. There is no language at our command by which we can fittingly portray the sincerity of this man’s Christian character. He had been a church member for sixty years, joining the Missionary Baptist Church at Old Rowlett Creek in 1863.
In December 1865, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. LEACH, five children being born to this union. The children, Mrs. E. C. CUDD, Mrs. A. R. COOK and J. W. COOK of this county, Mrs. Jennie CRIDER of Hebron, Texas, and Mrs. Pearl ABERNATHY of Artesia, New Mexico, survive him, the wife having preceded him in death about ten years ago. The deceased also leaves twenty-one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren to mourn his departure.
In 1907 Mr. COOK moved to this county where he met with much success in his business of farming and stock raising. He was a man that was loved by all his neighbors and respected by all his community. For the past few years he had made his home with his grand-daughter, Mrs. W. G. YEARY. A short memorial service was conducted by Rev. W. A. Hitchcock at the Wilson Undertaking Parlors on last Friday afternoon, the body being shipped to Plano, Texas for burial. The Herald extends their sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives and friends in this, their sad hour.
