Harold Lester Ofe

Harold Lester Ofe, 89, of rural Chadron, passed away in his Hay Springs home on April 7, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Services will be held April 11 at the Chadron Berean Church. Harold Ofe was born May 11, 1919 in Oakdale, and moved to a farm south of Chadron with his parents in 1927. Harold served in the Third Division during WWII, under General Patton from 1941 to 1944, receiving the Purple Heart and numerous medals for outstanding service. On June 26, 1949 he married Aubyn Petersen and purchased their farm southeast of Chadron in 1951. He farmed/ranched until Nov. 2008. at which time he sold his cows and retired.
Harold's favorite pride and joy was his Belgium horse team(s) that he took to parades in Chadron and Crawford. They were also used on the farm for raking hay, picking up bales, in the timber and winter feeding. He was an avid reader, a watch-dog political informationalist, and a member of several political organizations. He loved to be visited by his daughters, grand and great-grand children.
Harold is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Aubyn; daughters Lea Ann and Leroy Buskirk, Alliance; Kay and David Telford, Omaha; Sue and Mark Hurley, Cheyenne, WY; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren; 13 great-grand children; eight step-great grandchildren; sisters: Nina Patterson, Madras, Oregon; Jeanelle Grant, Chadron; Frances Connell, Crawford; Verna Tuma, Chadron; 19 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Ross, one sister, Lucille Preble, and one nephew.
