She was born March 6, 1920 in Roseville, Ill. the daughter of Emil and Katherine Callister Swanson. She married Harold Icenogle in 1946 and Sherman Hutson in 1970. They preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (and Pam) Icenogle of Galesburg and Randy (and Valerie) Icenogle of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Nancy (and Al) Leonard of Galesburg; a step son, Jerry Hutson; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Kathleen Jacobs and Pauline Brumm.
She was raised and educated in Roseville, graduating from Roseville High School in 1937. She graduated from Blackburn College and attended Western Illinois University. She has lived in Galesburg since 1946.
Lois was a teacher in country schools in Henderson County. She was the last teacher at Graham School, which has been restored and is now located on the grounds of the Henderson County Historical Museum. During World War II, she was an inspector at the Iowa Ordnance Plant in Burlington. After the war, Lois was office manager for Moffitt and Yarrington Insurance. She then worked for the Galesburg office of the Illinois Department of Public Aid as a caseworker for 18 years, retiring in 1983.
Lois was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was a charter member of the Biggsville Legion Auxiliary and of her sewing club.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church. Mary Runge will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
