ATWOOD -- Albert Joseph Reeh, 78, died Friday (Feb. 28, 2003) at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.
He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in a sod house north of Beardsley, Kan., to Paul and Cledy Reeh. He graduated from the Forest Hill Grade School, with honors. He acquired the knowledge of farming, skills in carpentry and mechanics while working for others. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan. He was transferred to the Philippine Islands and spent time at Leyte and Mindanao Islands. He served in Japan on the clean-up crew after the attack on Hiroshima.
On June 21, 1948, he married Agnes Sabatka at St. John's Catholic Church of rural Atwood. They made their home on a farm northeast of McDonald.They retired from the farm and moved to Atwood in 1984, where they have since made their home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Leonard Cahoj; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Beata and Frank Vrbas.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Atwood; his children, Lynaire, Maureen and husband, Nyle BeDillon, Lorraine and friend, Michael Benefiel, and Michelle, all of Denver, Colo., and Robert and wife, Jolene of McDonald; brother, Clarence Reeh and wife, Irene of Denver; sister, Eva Cahoj of Colby, Kan.; brother-in-law, Louis Sabatka and wife, Elizabeth of Atwood; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with the Rev. Damian Richards as celebrant. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in rural Atwood.
A parish vigil and rosary will be recited today, 7:30 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Atwood.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Atwood Second Century Fund, Rawlins County Health Center Foundation or the Atwood Good Samaritan Center.
Williams Funeral Home of Atwood is in charge of arrangements.
