Arthur James Wheatley, age 91, of 33565 Alabama Highway 28, died March 22, 2002 at his residence. Graveside services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery with Dr. Art Luckie officiating. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directing. Visitation will be today at residence - 1003 South Main Street, Demopolis, Alabama.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wheatley. Survivors include spouse, Pauline Rutledge Wheatley, Demopolis; daughter, Margaret W. (Buddy) Cross, Demopolis; son, Arthur James (Jimbo) Wheatley Jr., Demopolis; grandchildren, John R. (Carol Lee) Cross, Northport; William Todd (Krystal) Cross, Dallas, Tx.; Anne French Cross, Montgomery, Ala.; Arthur James Wheatley III, Gulf Shores, Ala.; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Rome, Georgia and a resident of Demopolis for many years. He worked for the U. S. Corps of Engineers for 33 years, and after retirement he worked as a game warden for Gulf States Papers Corp/Forestry Department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Demopolis and a member of Demopolis Masonic Lodge #49 and the Board of Equalization.

Honorary pallbearers are Harold Johnson, Lloyd Jones, Eddie Jackson, Riddell Abrams, Claud Neilson, Hugh Lloyd, Rodney Allen, Bobby Kidd, Roberta Edwards, Debra Mack, Elizabeth Burrell, A. G. Westbrook, William H. Traeger, Jr., Bo McAlpine, Mike McAlpine, Ricky Teel, Joe Sledge, Kevin Horn, Mark Homan, Joe Rankin, Will Baker, Alvin Stringfellow, Tommy Graham, and Don Black.
