For forty years, Abel John Ekins owned and operated the Lehi Drug Company as a pharmacist. Then at age 85 on April 15, 2005 he died of complications incident to age. Born in Vineyard, Utah, the son of Abel John and Lydia Allen Ekins on May 22, 1919, he married Geraldine Taylor in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 6, 1941.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Abe served a mission in Hawaii, later with his wife in Tokyo, Japan, in the Bishopric, Stake Clerk, Counselor in the High Priest Group and a Temple sealer. He served his community in the Lions Club, Lehi Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Lehi Fire Department.
Geraldine, his wife of Lehi; two sons and four daughters: Dale (Karen) Ekins, Judith (Roger) Turner, Geralee Smith (Carl) Daniels, all of Lehi; Brent (Dana) Ekins, Clovis, CA; Marlene (Richard) Sundblom, West Valley City; Barbara (Randy) Bliss, Farmington, CT; 33 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers: Eugene Hilton, Robert Hilton, Floyd (Jim) Hilton, and sister, Francis Hanes will greatly miss Abe. His parents, stepfather Samuel W. Hilton, grandson Tyson Smith, and brothers, Sam and Donn Hilton preceded him in death.
According to the obituary published in the Salt Lake Tribune April 17, 2005 memorial services was held Tuesday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi Utah LDS Stake Center. Family received friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the Church on Tuesday one hour prior to service.
