Jose, a resident of Española, was predeceased by his infant son Johnny Patrick Garcia; wife Benita V. Garcia; parents Juan B. and Marina A. Garcia; parents-in-law Gabriel and Josefita Valdez; sisters-in-law Margaret Archuleta and Odelia Garcia; brothers-in-law Gusman and Gabe Valdez.

Jose was survived by his children: Lucille Bustos (husband Jim), Joe Garcia, Paul Garcia (wife Lori), Julie Martinez (husband Ray), and Phillip Garcia (wife Heather); sisters: Lillie Holcomb and Priscilla Romero; sisters-in-law: Margie Valdez and Ruby Valdez; brothers-in-law: Felix Valdez (wife Lorraine) and Christobal Archuleta; grandchildren: Jimmy Jr., Mark, Dana, Christopher, Sean, Danna, Jodi Lynn, Mikayla, Kayanna, Jarrod, Jessica, Skylor, Mario and Mateo; dear friend Flora Quintana; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Jose and his wife Benita owned Valley Monument Company for over 25 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and always gave his time freely to those he cared for. He will be dearly missed.

A visitation and Wake service were on April 9, 2013 at the Rivera Family Funeral Home Chapel in Española. Mass of Christian burial was on April 10, 2013 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Interment followed in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jimmy Jr., Mark Christopher, Sean, Jarrod, Skylor, Mario and Mateo. Honorary Pallbearers: Dana, Jessica, Danna, Mikayla, Kayanna and Jodi-Lynn.
