Arthur Warren Allison, a devoted husband, beloved dad and loving grandpa, of Middletown, passed from this life on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Wellsville, at the age of 93 years and 1 day.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M., Monday, March 25th at the Myers Funeral Home in Middletown and from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Tuesday, at the church.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 26th at the Middletown Christian Church. Rev. Daniel Sites will officiate. Serving as soloist will be his granddaughter, Kara Herriman. Pianist and vocalist will be Debbie Quamby.
Burial with Full Military Honors will be in the Fairmount Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffrey Hartman, Craig Allison and Tim Hartman, great-grandson, Cody Allison and friends, John Hank and Terry Pritchett. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Luke Hartman and Josh and Colton Davidson.
Mr. Allison was born March 21, 1920, on the family farm five miles northeast of Middletown, Missouri, a son of Earl Warren and Lurena (Lemasters) Allison.
He was a 1939 graduate of Middletown High School.
On October 10, 1943, in Middletown, Missouri, while home on furlough from the service, he married Lois Eleanor Bishop. They were married in a double wedding ceremony with Jack Lemasters, his cousin, and Evelyn Cohagen. Arthur and Eleanor would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Devoting their lives together as husband and wife, Arthur and Eleanor shared a faith filled life with love and commitment for one another.
Arthur served his country in the United States Army. He was a World War II veteran serving 4 years, 6 months and 28 days, entering on April 1, 1941. He was the flight engineer on the B-29 bomber flying bombing missions over Japan in 1945. Arthur was honorably discharged from the service on October 29, 1945, after spending 3 months and 2 days in foreign service, flying 25 combat (tactical) missions over the Japanese Mainland from May 5, 1945 to August 7, 1945. While in the service, Arthur received these medals and ribbons for distinguished service during World War II: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, 2 Air Medal Oak Leaf Clusters, American Theatre Medal, American Defense Medal and 2 Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal Bronze Stars.
After returning from the service, Arthur followed a profession of farming for most of his life. In 1960, he added selling Moorman's livestock feed to his farming duties.
Arthur and Eleanor have lived on their farm since 1954 and in the Middletown area most of his life. They had also resided in the Mt. Olivet, Vandalia, area for 10 years.
In retirement since 1975, he and Eleanor spent many winters in Florida and in most recent years enjoying his time on the family farm doing gardening, hobby work and spending time with his family.
He loved to work with children and was a 4-H leader for over 30 years, receiving the Frank Graham award for his leadership. Arthur and Eleanor were faithful vendors at the Old Threshers with their hobbies and ceramics.
Arthur, along with his wife, Eleanor, enjoyed lapidary, making many rings as well as belt buckles. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was a member of the Middletown Christian Church. Arthur confessed his faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior in early life and has been a faithful worker in his church all of his life.
