Bobby Chavez was hired by the City of Santa Monica as an Ocean Lifeguard from May 15, 1960 to June 30, 1974 until the City merged with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. His service continued under the new administration from July 1, 1974 until his retirement on May 16, 1982.
