Daughter of Rev James Hillman Sharp and Grace Cordelia Brooks. Wife of LCDR Jack Commodore Goodman. They had three daughters, Rhonda, Gayle and Jackie. She and Jack founded the Learn & Play Kindergarten in Oak Harbor in 1956 and she ran it until 1968. Jack died in 1963 of a sudden heart attack. In 1967, Helen married Russell W Swass. Tragedy struck her life again in 1968 when her middle daughter, Gayle, was killed in a car accident at the age of 19. In 1969 they moved to San Ramon, California when Russ, a Grumman Tech Rep got transferred to Alameda. She went back to school and got her license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and took care of residents in a convalescent home. In 1980, she and Russ moved her parents from Texas to live with them and Helen became their full-time caregiver until their deaths in 1983 and 1986. In 1987, her ailing brother, Welbourne moved in with them and she cared for him until his death in 1990. Russ died in 1999 with Helen at his side. She moved back to Oak Harbor to be close to her daughters Rhonda and Jackie. She was a devoted Christian and a perfect and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She died peacefully with family at her bedside. She is buried next to her daughter, Gayle.
