George was the son of Eva and Barnery Bekkering

Obituary: George Peter Bekkering, age 91, of Barryton, went to be with Jesus on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Spectrum Health - Kent Community Campus.
George was a veteran of WWII and a member of Chippewa Lake Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, daughters, Bonnie and Diane, and a grandson, Anthony Bekkering. He had 12 brothers and sisters; Dorthy Berkompas is the only one living. His children are Roger (Karen) Bekkering of Middleville, Rev. Wayne (Phyllis) Bekkering of Jenison, G. Calvin (Sally) Bekkering of Grandville, and David (Linda) Bekkering of Middleville. He also has five step children, Kathern Griffes of Morley, Nancy Brooks of Wyoming, Robert (Kathy) Young of Arizona, James (Pat) Young of Big Rapids, and William (Patricia) Young of Portland. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren. The Linda Rusman family were special friends for many years.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Byron Center United Methodist Church, 2490 Prescott St. SW, with George's grandson, Pastor Ron Bekkering officiating.
