FONTELLA TOMLINSON Our amazing and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Ruth Fontella Hatch Tomlinson, age 89, of Vernal, returned peacefully to her heavenly family April 5, 2013. She was born October 29, 1923 in Vernal to Monroe "Brownie" Hatch and Sarah Christina Hullinger Hatch. She was the 6th of 8 children. She was taught at a very young age her ABC's both frontwards and backwards by her brothers and sisters. She attended Central School, Uintah Jr. High and Uintah High School and graduated from Vernal Seminary. She married the love of her life, Harry Eugean Tomlinson, on August 24, 1941 and later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 9, 1953. Harry died April 12, 2005. They lived in Willow Creek in the Book Cliff area southwest of Vernal for 22 years. They raised their family while ranching and raising award winning Herford Cattle. They sold the ranch in 1963 and moved full time into their home in Vernal. Then in 1964 they purchased a ranch in the Cedarview-Montwell Area. She served as a Primary teacher and 1st and 2nd counselor in Primary, Young Women's President, Beehive Teacher, Relief Society President twice in Roosevelt and always a devoted visiting teacher. Fontella and Harry served a mission for the LDS Church in the Arizona Holbrook Mission in 1983, enjoying their time helping and teaching people and making forever friends. Fontella had a love and talent for crocheting taught by her mother and grandmother, gracing her families and friends homes with doilies, table runners, and pillow cases. She has made many quilts, along with Harry's help, for grandchildren and great grandchildren, and quilts for all the weddings and new babies. Fontella had a love for cooking and a special way of making a gourmet meal out of just a few items. When people came to visit her, the kitchen was always the gathering place and was always open no matter the time. She was always willing to help any one no matter what the time. She loved helping in the garden with Harry and with the cattle at branding and vaccination time, and spent many long nights irrigating or helping with the calving. Her children are Judy Tomlinson (deceased), Brownie Eugean Tomlinson (Wendy), Charlotte Ann Kynaston (Gilbert), Mary Elise Tomlinson (deceased), Jerry A Tomlinson (Marie, and Bradley Sylvon Tomlinson (Brian Belnap). She has 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. This includes her extended family that has always been "just family." Funeral services held Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Vernal LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 235 East 600 South, where there will be a viewing Monday evening from 6-8 PM and Tuesday from 10-10:45 AM. Burial in the Vernal Memorial Park under direction of the Hullinger Mortuary
