James Monroe Shaw, son of Jonathan M. and Eliza Houser Shaw, was born at Blue Rapids, KS on June 30, 1894. He passed away at Community Memorial Hospital, Marysville, KS. on June 6, 1970.
Jim attended the Blue Rapids Schools and as a young man farmed and worked with his father and brother Ben as a building mason. He took great pride in the work they had done as it withstood the ravages to time. In later years he worked in the plumbing and heating business and was City Water Commissioner of Blue Rapids, KS. In Oct. 1944 he moved with his family to Waterville where he was in the hardware business and then the Chevrolet agency.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the Waterville Methodist Church; a lifelong member of the Blue Rapids Masonic Lodge, had served on the Waterville City Council and also was a trustee of Waterville township.
On Oct. 12, 1921 he was united in marriage to Kathryn E. Fincham and to this union were both two children, Mary Beth and Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. His wife, Kathryn, also preceded him in death in March of 1969.
Survivors are his daughter, Mary Beth Williams and husband, Roy, of Liberty, MO.; his son, Howard and wife, Thelma, Topeka, KS.; grandchildren, Susie Smith and husband, Robert of Liberty, MO.; Billie Wichman and husband Jerre of Kansas City, MO.; Bruce and Neal Shaw of Topeka, KS; Two great grandchildren, Ward and Terra Smith, Liberty, MO., one brother, Ben Shaw, Waterville, KS as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held June 7,1970 at the Waterville Methodist Church with interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, rural Blue Rapids, KS.
