Sarah is listed as a daughter of Perry & Elizabeth (Easley) Wagnon in the 1860 census of Washington county, Arkansas. She is not listed with the family in the 1870 census. The exact place of her burial is unknown. More than likely, she was buried beside her father, whose burial place is also unknown.

Minnie Mae (Wagnon) Birchitt wrote the following about 1980:
"I want to tell you about an episode that Granny (Elizabeth Easley Wagnon) told me about. She said Grandfather (Perry) Wagnon built a couple of coffins and buried a couple of persons he was not supposed to, and that was the reason he had to leave home, sick with measles. She never saw him again. He had made a track on a foot log and she covered the footprint with a piece of bark and kept it a long time until the first rise, I suppose.
She wept when she talked about Aunt (Sarah) Jane. . It was after the Civil War."
