After a painful and extended illness Mrs. Amanda McDowell died on September 2, 1897. She bore her affliction with christian patience and fortitude. Funeral services were held t the Congregational church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor. The deceased was a native of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and was born February 17, 1843, and was married at Fredericktown, May 1, 1869, to H. D. McDowell, of Delaware, Ohio. They moved to Missouri and later from thee to Seneca, Kansas, in September 1887, and remained here until death came to relieve her of earthly pain and suffering.
