Joyce Calden Myles, 78, of Mexico, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at her residence.

She was born in Madrid on Nov. 26, 1929, a daughter of Ralph S. and Winnifred Stinchfield Calden.

She was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1947, and later attended Bliss Business School, graduating in 1949.

The following year, she married Harry Myles on Oct. 21, 1950, in Rumford.

She started her banking career with Maine National Bank in Dixfield and later went to the Mexico branch. In 1975, she accepted a job with Franklin Savings Bank in Rumford, and she later became the manager of the Mexico branch until she retired in 1993.

For many years, she was an active member in the Rumford Rotary Club, in which she held the office of secretary, and was a communicant of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.

She took immense pride in being the best wife, mother and grandmother possible. She enjoyed each and every family gathering, which she always orchestrated. Her enthusiasm for family and tradition has been installed in all of us.

She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Leith Calden.
