Ethel Lorraine DeGroot was born on January 4, 1924, to Louie and Caroline (Kruger) Bush on the family farm east of Kanaranzi, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. On August 31,1952, Ethel was united in marriage to Clifford DeGroot at Zion Presbyterian Church. Soon after their wedding, the couple left for Ft. Riley in Kansas as Clifford entered into the United States Army. For over 30 years Ethel worked as a clerk at Mr. Treat's Drug Store, which later became Bot Drug. Following Clifford's return from service, the couple moved to their home in Luverne, MN. Clifford passed away in August of 1996, and Ethel continued to live at their home. On Thursday, September 6, 2007, Ethel passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 83 years, eight months, and two days.

She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. She was also a member of the Kanaranzi Cemetery Association, Kanaranzi Ladies' Aid, Ladies' Auxillary of the V.F.W., and the Retired Senior's Volunteer Program. She enjoyed traveling many places through her years and buying and selling antiques. Ethel is lovingly remembered by her brother, Eldon Bush and his wife Wilda of Luverne, MN; a sister, Fern Geerdes of Sheldon, IA, two sisters-in-law, Generose Bush of Magnolia, MN, and MaryEllen Gronewold of George, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents, Louie and Caroline Bush; four sisters, Louise Geerdes, Viola Geerdes, Luella Willemssen, and Marion Hickman; and two brothers, Louie Bush and LeRoy Bush.
