Married Adelia Weston on August 12, 1899. They had four children: Robert Behnke, Herbert Behnke, Helena Behnke, and May Behnke. Adelia died from infection shortly after May's birth in 1909.

Married Hulda Erdman July 16, 1910. Children were: Vera Behnke, Eugene H. Behnke, Kurt M. Behnke, Renata W. Behnke, Adeline Behnke, Erna Behnke, and Arlo Wayne F. Behnke.

Charles was born in Germany, to parents Karl August Herman Behnke and Carolina Wilhelmine Florentine Kliese. The family immigrated to the US in 1881.
