Born in Analomink, on February 16, 1912 she was a daughter of the late Harry and Katie (Kathryn Mader) Ace. Emma graduated from East Stroudsburg High School and attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College now known as East Stroudsburg University. She was employed at Holland Thread Company for 35 years, 25 of those years as a Lab Technician in the testing lab. Emma retired in 1978 when Holland Thread closed business.
She was an active member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Tannersville, where she served as a Deacon and was the first woman to serve as an Elder. Emma was also a Secretary for Grace Church Consistory for 15 years and a Secretary for the Women's Guild for 14 years, she also taught Sunday school for 10 years. Emma was elected and served as Judge of Elections for Pocono Township for 36 years retiring in 1989. She was one of the organizers of Central Pocono Ambulance Association of Tannersville in 1960 being the chairperson of the Organizing Committee. Emma was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Ambulance Association and served as Secretary of the Board of Directors for 32 years. She also organized the Ladies Unit in 1978 and served as President until it closed in 1996. Emma was the purchaser of food for the kitchen during Bingo nights at the Ambulance Building from the start in the late 1980's. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pocono Township Volunteer Fire Company since 1947. Emma was a charter member of the fraternal order of Eagles, Area 1106 of Stroudsburg, a past member of Elsie Longacre Rebecca Lodge of Tannersville and the Pocono Garden Club of Tannersville.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and her husband were sisters, Lucinda Shook and Sarah Ace; brothers, Edward Ace and Lawrence Ace; a granddaughter Darlene Wise and a great granddaughter Kathleen Novack.
Emma is survived by two daughters: Shirley Learn of Lumberton, NC and Catherine Young wife of Edward of Providence, NC; one son: Ronald Clair Shick, husband of the former Marigene (Miller) of Henryville; nine grandchildren: Valerie Widdoss-Novack wife of David, Douglas Widdoss, Wayne Dennis, Mark Young husband of Megan, Holly Shick, Krissandra Shick wife of Jim Corso, Ronald C. Shick, II husband of Erin, and Brandie (Shick) Marlin wife of Brant; six great grandchildren: Thomas Learn, Sean Cramer, Jessica Widdoss, Dylan Shick, Keira Shick, Reese Carbo and Michael Carbo. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
