HORNEY SR., RAYMOND AARON, 78, of Hebron, Maryland entered peacefully into eternal life with the Lord on March 14, 2013 at home, with his wife and best friend Doris by his side. Born April 27, 1934 in Baltimore, MD, Raymond was the son of Ella E. Horney (Goldstraw) and the late Calvin A. Horney, Sr. Ray graduated from Glen Burnie High School with the class of 1953. He went on to earn his machinist apprenticeship with the Maryland Institute of Art in June of 1956, after completing 8,000 of theory and practice to qualify him as a Journeyman Machinist. Raymond was united in Holy Matrimony to his wife Doris M. Calabrese, on June 22, 1956. Their union was blessed with three children; Diana Lynn, Raymond Aaron Jr., and Tammy Lee. In addition to his work with Maryland Shipbuilding and Dry dock, Co. and Revere Copper and Brass, Ray worked as a machinist at Proctor & Gamble in Baltimore for 29 years and retired in 1990, to his "waterfront retreat" in Hebron, MD. Always the consummate craftsman, he had built many things. From his first home in 1952, to the countless fishing piers along Rewastico creek, he was forever using his hands to construct and create. Among many affiliations, Ray was an active member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32 of the Valley of Baltimore, Orient of Maryland, for 51 years. Ray served as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America, Pack #478, and Troops #473, and #412. He also became a member of the American Tree Farm System in 1992. In addition to his loving wife Doris, he is survived by his three children: Diana Lynn Gabler and her husband Kenneth of Pasadena, MD; Raymond Aaron Horney, Jr. of Bridgeville, DE; and Tammy Lee Watson and her husband John of Myersville, MD. Also, survived by his 95 year old mother Ella E. Horney; his sister Janice E. Squires (Janny); and his brother Calvin A. Horney, Jr. (Skip). Ray was a proud "Poppy" of five grandchildren: Raymond A. Horney, III; Kenneth Herbert Weaver, Timothy John Watson, Michael Joseph Watson, and Seth Alexander Horney, as well as his five great grandchildren. Ray had decided long ago, to forego traditional funeral services at the time of his death. Instead, he requested that his body be donated to the Maryland State Anatomy Board, to assist researchers in the medical community with their efforts to discover and develop new technologies and cures for future generations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests your consideration in donating to Coastal Hospice at the Lake, P.O. Box 1733 Salisbury, Maryland 21802-1733 (www.coastalhospice.org ).Please note your donation "in honor of Raymond A. Horney, Sr.
