A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Wade Everett. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson, NC. A visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at Burroughs-Cooper-Kiser Funeral Home.
Born on May 23, 1927, in the Brightsville/Gibson Community of Marlboro County, SC, he was a son of the late William L. Barrington and Naomi Yarborough Barrington. Mr. Barry was a Major with the United States Army who proudly served his country faithfully and retired after 26 years of dedicated service. During his ARMY service time, he served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bennettsville and a member of the American Legion Post#60 (Red Bluff Community in Clio). Mr. Barry was a people person who dearly loved his step-grandchildren and will be remembered as a wonderful stepfather. After his military career, he worked as a self-employed electrician & plumber.
He is survived by a stepson, Robert Stanton and wife Wanda of Bennettsville; a stepdaughter, Janice Stanton Clarkson and husband Rhett of Richmond, VA; a brother, William Barrington and wife Pat of Laurinburg, NC; two sisters, Anna Jo Barrington and Frances B. Wright both of Laurinburg, NC; also five step-grandsons.
