Virginia "June" Hower, 79, of Topeka, formerly of Denison, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at a Topeka care facility. She was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Denison, the daughter of John and Pearl Hollenbeck Boyles. She graduated from Denison High School in 1943 and lived most of her life in the Denison community. She owned and operated June's Beauty Bar in Denison and later worked as secretary for Jackson Farmers Co-op in Denison. She was formerly a member of Denison Union Church and was currently a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church in Topeka. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 488 in Denison. She married Lawrence D. Hower on April 30, 1946, in Topeka. He died July 16, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Randy Hower, Topeka, and Terry Hower, Oregon City, Ore.; a brother, John Boyles, Denison; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Mrs. Hower will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Denison Cemetery. She will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, where family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials may be given to the Brewster Place Charity Care Fund in care of Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, Kan. 66436.
