He was born in rural Attala County, MS, son of a farmer and blacksmith. He left the farm for town where he became a mercantile saleman and later a successfull traveling shoe salesman for Wienbrenner & Thorogood Shoe Companies. He was a navy veteran of WWI. He married Bessie Noah and had two children, William & Mary Elizabeth. He loved cigars and fly fishing for large-mouthed black bass. He will always be missed by those who knew him.
